We all get into the world of making money being very excited, motivated, wanting to take as much as we can and thinking these marketers are fools for giving us time to leech on them. Little do we know that it’s the other way around.
We’re the ones who aren’t aware that there’s some system in place to hypnotize us into believing that we can get rich. And we continue to flock to these sites, get free reports and sit in for a meeting but all the while not believing the hoopla that’s going through our ears.
It seems what we’re seeing and believing is different.
So when dollar signs and clean cut men or women shows us some possibilities, we’re hungry. We’re curious about how we can too get what they got. They talk about being thrown through hoops of fire to come out alive and about being saved by the grace almighty.
I want to be saved too.
In fact, that reminds me of a story I would like to share with you about a meeting I had in Las Vegas a couple of years back. My husband and I went there on our honeymoon and sad to say, we were young, broke and ready to take anything that was FREE.
One of the things we wanted to do before leaving was take an air tour over Hoover Dam. We wanted the helicopter tour in particular. This cost too much so we settled for the jet tour. We ask the social counselor at the front desk for assistance and she gave us a suggestion on how we could leverage more activities for less.
Meeting the Green-Eyed Monster
It all started with a 1 hour timeshare meeting. It included a FREE magic show and slots coupon plus buffet! Needless to say, it was one of the worse meetings I’ve ever been to. It tore me to shreds because the saleswoman went about it the wrong way.
She was trying to convince us to buy a timeshare but here’s where we’ve been already prepped with previous experience of what a timeshare was, so we denied her offers. This got her more persistent and to make it more personal she started making us feel like we were living our life wrong.
She continued further and we felt that she was pushing us to believe we were limiting ourselves from things in life of which could be more. The psycho-tactic she used was so aggressive, my resources were depleted and the only courage left was the awareness of being belittled.
Not to take it the wrong way but no matter what you’re selling, you shouldn’t push your prospect. Sometimes it takes more than once and the way it works is like a snowball effect. The person hears it so much that the next time it appears the percentage of belief will raise because it’s consistent.
Real-World Effect
Let’s take a commercial you’ve just saw and use it for this example. You’re not going to give it much thought the first time around but as it appears more and more and people are buzzing about it, soon the brand will have a name. It will be familiar to you much like a song is on a radio.
And when it reaches that point within your mind as an image of authority you would reference it as a choice. That’s how we go about choosing what brand of camera to buy, what kind of car to drive, what kind of television to watch and so on.
This is the law of attraction working it’s way around the universe and coming back at you. This is something we’ve heard before but it doesn’t sink in until now. So I’m repeating myself again, that’s the law of the universe coming back at you.
Notice I didn’t say attraction this time because that’s a distracting word. I’m thinking sexy and that’s not what I want back. Honestly. I want curiosity, hunger, desire, sharing and giving back to the universe.
This is the giving mindset that is so important in the foundation of your entrepreneurial life and for any success for that matter. Without knowing how to utilize it, you’re setting yourself up for disaster.
Revisiting Old Times
Was that saleswoman giving?
She certainly was not! She wanted to take and make some profit. There was no giving of information to understand what a timeshare is. She only laid out the pleasure I was able to accomplish but it wasn’t realistic. I need numbers and price, she gave me lifestyle and advice.
So what did I choose?
I choose the numbers because I had nothing to give. I had nothing to buy and therefore nothing for the saleswoman to take. In the end, she didn’t make a sell. We got our freebies and I walked out of there telling myself ‘never again‘.
I was kind of scared of sales from that point on. They are so persistent it’s frightening. The push and reverse psychology which is designed to make you give up and give in, is it any wonder why we’re burned more than once?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just give it to me so we can get it over with.
How many times have you said that to someone you know? I’m guilty of that too. But when it’s with someone you don’t know, suddenly your money is more valuable. You’re more defensive.
If you can think about it this way, it might ease your mind.
It has nothing to do with you, it’s all about the money and it’s all part of the game where dog eats dog to bring in the most meat. So each time the game is changed with different faces, different names, the money always remain key. They will hustle, push and get themselves into your face to get your attention. Then present their offer after you are ready to listen by selling you a dream.
Don’t you want to bark already?
You got to. You have to learn how to bark back and put your back into it. Soon you’ll get what you give. That’s the backbone to success.
How did you learn to bark? What was the final straw which made you realize that if you didn’t change something you wouldn’t grow?
